Finding Ground Amidst Chaos: Standing Strong in Times of Change
The last few weeks have felt like a whirlwind—emotions are high, and the political landscape seems to shift by the minute. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed, disheartened, and even confused in the face of sudden and chaotic changes. You are not alone. However, history shows us that moments like these are the catalyst for the most profound transformations. We are in the Age of the Aquarius after all!
As Robert Reich has wisely pointed out, it often takes witnessing injustice firsthand for movements to rise and for the collective consciousness to awaken. Without the horrific images of innocent Black men and women being beaten on the streets during the Civil Rights Movement, many may not have felt compelled to take a stand. We are in one of those defining moments now—a time to reaffirm our beliefs and fight for justice with renewed strength, determination and compassion.
It’s easy to get caught up in the noise, but now more than ever, grounding yourself in purpose and practical action is essential. On February 4th, Jupiter stations direct in Taurus, marking a shift that astrologer Pam Younghans describes as a time to ease the mental overload we’ve all been carrying since mid-January. Decisions have come fast and furious, leaving many of us spinning. I suggests focusing on what is practical and grounding—learning a new task like sewing or knitting can be surprisingly therapeutic and give you a sense of calm amidst the storm. I am teaching myself to sew now and it’s so lovely to channel my grandmother as I practice. There is a lot of energy at hand that we can be working with right now, let’s use it wisely!
In the midst of this chaos, the most radical and revolutionary thing you can do is practice love. Pema Chödrön teaches a powerful loving-kindness meditation, which can be an anchor in times like these. She invites us to sit quietly, breathe deeply, and repeat these phrases:
May I be happy.
May I be healthy.
May I be safe.
May I live with ease.
Once you’ve extended this love toward yourself, you radiate it outward—to friends, to strangers, even to those you may struggle to love. By practicing love, we are cultivating the very energy that fuels meaningful and lasting change. Love is radical because it resists hatred, division, and fear. It is our greatest form of activism.
I would also love to invite you to step away from the chaos and join me at one of my upcoming retreats this spring. These April and May gatherings are designed to be a haven from the noise, offering you a chance to recharge, reconnect, and find clarity as we navigate this tumultuous time. You can learn more about the retreats here.
As we move forward together, here are a few ways you can stay informed and contribute meaningfully to the fight for civil rights:
Stay Informed from Credible Sources: Follow reputable news outlets and organizations that provide balanced and factual reporting.
Amplify Marginalized Voices: Share perspectives from those directly impacted by political and social changes.
Contact Your Representatives: Reach out to your local, state, and national officials to share your stance on critical issues.
Get Involved Locally: Support grassroots organizations, attend peaceful protests, and participate in community-building efforts.
Practice Self-Care: Remember, rest is resistance. When you care for yourself, you’re better equipped to show up for others.
These times require courage, compassion, and a commitment to truth and justice. Let us stand together, grounded in love and unwavering in our convictions. History has shown that when we rise, change follows. Let's be part of that change—hand in hand, heart to heart.
Much love,
